LochenHeath is Scottish. "Loch" means lake and "Heath" is a native grass. The property, a scenic bluff overlooking East Grand Traverse Bay in the upper Lower Peninsula of Northern Michigan, was once a cherry orchard owned and operated for over 75 years by the Maitland family. Barb Maitland and her husband Jim, converted the orchard into a high-end golf course.
This private club opened to great fanfare 10 years ago as a residential golf development centered by the award-winning 7,239 yard course designed by Florida architect Steve Smyers. After a series of management changes, the club eventually closed. In November 2010 the club was purchased by a dedicated and
committed group of LochenHeath homeowners and members, to be re-opened initially as a high-end public course, then transitioning back to a fully private membership club.
This impressive community features generous luxury home sites situated throughout a brilliant championship golf course. Several of these home sites number among the most beautiful and highly sought-after waterfront lots in the area. A distinctive and elegant architectural style creates a unique residential identity, and LochenHeath is a paradise for lovers of the outdoors, golf, and access to beautiful East Grand Traverse Bay. |
